Quod erat demonstrandum, the Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna”’s youth chess tournament – in both classical and 960 format – has not yet ended and will continue even next week on Saturday, May 12, 2018 starting at 16,00 as usual. Last Saturday one of the young participants took immediately advantage of the qualified advices he read on the internet. After running into a painful mate, he calmly kept on playing and made his move. When his opponent vehemently protested, “But it’s checkmate!”, he quietly said, “Please keep silence. You are no longer a kid. You shouldn’t say checkmate”. I couldn’t believe my ears. As an improvised referee, of course, I had to acknowledge his opponent’s win, but I awarded him a particular author’s book a week in advance. He knows the reason why.
