As Alina l’Ami pointed out then: “Instead, 16. ... g5!! was the way forward, the point being 17. hxg4 h5!!, opening the h-file. Black’s initiative could have been very unpleasant in a practical game and 逸凡 (Yìfán) mentioned this opportunity as well”.
17. gxh3 Bxh3. Nolens volens. Muminova probably overlooked that 17. ... Bxf3 simply loses a piece after 18. Qf4! Bh5 19.Qf5+.
18. a4 Qf7. The deadly threat is ... Qf7-g6+, but it would have been more stubborn 18. ... g5, “as [Nafisa] suggested afterwards, rolling everything forward, preventing Qd2-f4 and hope for a safe”, Alina l’Ami writes.
19. Qf4 g5 20. Qh2 Be6 21. Nfd2 f5 22. b5 c5


23. b6! A break-up sacrifice.
23. ... axb6. Else 23. ... cxb6 24. Rxb6! and wins (24. ... axb6 25. Nxb6#).
24. a5! f4. Useless, but after 24. ... fxe4 25. axb6 Qf4 26. Nxe4 White also scores a point.
25. axb6 cxb6. Also after 25. ... Kb8 26. Ne5 Black’s is a lost cause.
26. Nd6+! Rxd6 27. Ra8+ Kc7 28. Rxh8 Rd7 29. Qh6 Qe7. Or 29. ... Qg6 30. Qf8 with a mating net.
30. Nc4 1–0.
