17. ... Rhf8 18. Bb4 Bc5 19. Bxc5 Nxc5 20. Ng3 b5 21. Rxd8+ Kxd8 22. Be2 Kc7. The position is roughly equal. Black’s Knights are well-placed, that compensates double Pawns.
23. Rd1?! An useless move.
RR Possibly a psychological approach, in the style of Emanuel Lasker. After 23. Bf3 Ne6 the chances are roughly even.
23. ... Nd5 24. Rf1 f5! Now Black is slightly better.
25. Bf3 Nxf4 26. Bxc6 Nfd3+. Now the game is equal. The d-Pawn controls the center and can be a passed Pawn in the future. 26. ... Kxc6! 27. Rxf4 Re8 28. Kd2 Na4 29. b3 Rd8+ 30. Kc1 Nc3⩱ Probably Black’s advantage is not enough to win but he could try his chances.
27. cxd3 Kxc6 28. Kc2 Re8 29. Kd2 Rd8 30. Rf3= Nb7?! A strange maneuver, the Knight is well placed on c5. 30. ... Kd6 31. Ne2 Ke7 32. Kc3 Ne6=.
