Mariya Muzychuk vs. 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán). 1 – 18 March 2016. The Women’s World Chess Championship match. Mariya Muzychuk may be regarded as the Ukrainian female athlete for 2015. Lviv resident Mariya won the Women’s World Chess Championship in Krasnaya Polyana, Russia. In the final, Mariya defeated her “frenemy” Natalia Andreevna Pogonina from Russia. Next March Muzychuk will fight for the Women’s World Chess Crown against 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) from China. The match will be held in Lviv, Ukraine – what the FIDE President Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov called “a political decision”. 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) is considered the favourite to win, but Mariya Muzychuk is working hard to turn tables.
