Today in the morning, for the first time in its Italian story, Prato’s Chinese community — one of the largest in Europe — joined together to stage an intercultural demonstration along the streets of Prato’s so-called Chinatown. About 2,000 people participated in the mass rally protesting the lack of security and their constant exposure to criminal acts every hour of every day.
The colourful procession was headed by cosmopolite flags (both the Chinese and the Italian ones), but there were also rainbow flags as other signs and sheets on which were displayed words of wisdom (in both languages).
Very few Italians participated, although they very often complain of the same condition, and all town local authorities brightly shined in their absence, except for Prato’s Vice Mayor Simone Faggi, who is well known for his longstanding engagement with such issues.
Just as all first times bring a lesson, however, I’d like to invite my Chinese friends to understand also the reasons of those who didn’t join their historical entering into the human race’s media world. Paris was not built in a day, and mutual trust needs to be cultivated by both parties every hour of every day. So maybe, just keep sharing every hour of every day with other people. Even with those who today didn’t come to your appointment. Everyone is of equal worth, has equal status, deserves equal respect, and should be respected as an equal.

Sunday, May 3, 2015. What a surprise! Some of them learned chess by me in Prato, but I met them as dancers at the Teatro Verdi in Florence.
