Arturo Pomar Salamanca, born on September 1, 1931, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, is dead today at 84 years old in a Barcelona’s hospital. A chess prodigy, he drew a game with his mentor Alexander Aleksandrovich Alekhine at the age of 13, becoming the youngest player ever to draw with a reigning World Chess Champion at a normal time control, a record which still stands.
