The Importance of Not Being Arcovazzi

When Worlds Meet
Since 2005, photographer Peter Sanders has documented how Muslims and non-Muslims happily coexist, despite a culture of fear and division. He explains a series of his images, beginning with this shot of a hijab-wearing makeup artist: “She used to be a model too. We did these shots, went away and years later someone came to me at an event and said: ‘Don’t you recognise me?’. It was Karima. I had never seen her face – how could I recognise her?” Peter Sanders is in conversation on Saturday 16 July at Kinara Festival, Blackburn Library, Blackburn, Lancashire, England.
