Reasons and Persons

The head coach of the Chinese women's team Grandmaster 余少腾 (Yú Shǎoténg) promptly admitted defeat after 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí)’s today’s theoretical débâcle. Anna Muzychuk’s classic Bishop sacrifice proved to be too strong (and totally unexpected to her opponent), and, “in spite of 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí)’s stubborn resistance, the situation was not remediable”, 余少腾 (Yú Shǎoténg) told sports.sina.com.cn. “Tomorrow 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí) will have White”, 余少腾 (Yú Shǎoténg) said, “and it will be the last chance for avoiding the tie-break playoff. She will have to try for a win through a steady and balanced strategy. I just hope she will not be affected by today’s game”.

In today’s game Anna Muzychuk displayed her great talent, showing that even a veiled Knockout Women’s World Chess Championship Tournament may be a serious thing for the whole world. Leontxo García titled his today’s El País column “Muzychuk remonta con brillo”, while her mentor and countryman Pavel Eljanov mistically encouraged her to play what Reuben Fine called “as natural as a baby’s smile”. The fourth game will be crucial for both girls, in a way or another. We wish the best for both of them!
