The President of Russian Chess Federation and FIDE Vice President Andrey Vasilievich Filatov argued that the President of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov has all the powers and rights to re-run for presidency in next elections. According to him, the vote of FIDE Executive Board does not bear any legal effect or validity.
It was reported earlier that the Executive Board pronounced against another candidature of Ilyumzhinov, President of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs since 1995, in 2018 elections. Furthermore, the Executive Board unanimously delegated presidential authority to the Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos. “The vote of the Executive Board does not bear any legal effect, so there’s no impediment”, Filatov told R-Sport. “There are no legal restrictions preventing Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov from re-running for presidency. He has all powers and rights to candidate himself. As soon as he will make his decision, he will announce it by himself”. |
