Game of Thrones

President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF), Andrey Vasilievich Filatov, announced of being ready to directly compete with FIDE President Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov for the RCF Presidency. Previously, Ilyumzhinov, who is the President of FIDE since 1995, said that he could even run for the Russian Chess Federation Presidency.
“We are a democratic organisation, and the more people come out with ideas for developing and popularizing chess in Russia, the better!”, Filatov told R-Sport. “This is only a competition, and it’s okay. I’m always ready to compete. Today I officially announced that I have been nominated for President of the Russian Chess Federation, and I am very grateful to those grandmasters who supported me.
Will Kirsan Nikolaevich be President of FIDE? Or perhaps will he be President of the Russian Chess Federation? I’d not exclude that he will arrive somewhere else. He is a bright, creative person, and we want to wish him success in all his electoral deadlines. He is an experienced person who has always been nominated.
The number of candidates is free. Anyone who is nominated, especially if she/he is bright, authoritative and respected, will always benefit Russian chess”.
