FIDE President Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov withdrew in extremis his candidacy to stand for election of President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF). “I am grateful to all regional federations which nominated me for the election, but I withdraw my candidacy for concentrating on my international agenda”, Ilyumzhinov told reporters.
The election of the new President of the Russian Chess Federation is taking place today (Saturday, February 3) concurrently to the 13th Congress of the RCF in Moscow, Russia. Andrey Vasilievich Filatov, Zaurbek Sultanovich Malsagov, Sergey Anatolyevich Nesterov, Ivan Valentinovich Starikov, Eduard Anatolyevich Suboch now remain the only candidates.
