On the eve of the last day in 上海 (Shànghǎi) of the first half of the “中国移动” (“China Mobile”) Women’s World Chess Championship match, President of 上海 (Shànghǎi) Chess Academy, Mrs. 单霞丽 (Dān Xiálì), provides few details about the organisation — not always so easy and simple.
Originally the venue had been set at the third floor of the conference hall of the 浦西洲际酒店 (InterContinental Pǔxī Hotel), but, except for May 5 and 6, all other days had been booked a year in advance by people to get married. The Organising Committee even offered – in vain – compensation to the betrothed in order to make them change their dates, but superstition prevailed. So the venue was moved to B1 floor, adjacent to the parking lot. The Organising Committee feared that the soundproofing were not enough, but apparently the hotel staff somehow managed to limit the coming and going of cars within acceptable levels. The coordination with the other venue city, 重庆 (Chóngqìng), also caused some difficulties in terms of logistic and equality standards, as the availability to host the latter half of the World match was agreed and finalised only at the end of March. Finally, a plea for equality. In 上海 (Shànghǎi) – the birth city of 居文君 (Jū Wénjūn) – 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí) was always treated with fairness and on equal terms with her opponent. It is desirable that the same will also happen in 重庆 (Chóngqìng) – the birth city of 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí). |
