Rounding the Mark

President of Lazio, Nicola Zingaretti, the brother of Luca — alias Inspector Salvo Montalbano, the fictional detective created by Italian writer Andrea Camilleri — was elected, with an overwhelming majority, as Secretary of Italy’s Democratic Party (PD) on Sunday, March 3, 2019. At least 1.6 million PD supporters voted, which is more than expected. It took a whole year for PD to begin its leadership renewal, and now, hopefully, it should take lesser time to confront, not only formally, but substantially, the far-right coalition government.
