Harry Benson, Winner’s Check, 1972. The newly crowned World Chess Champion Robert James “Bobby” Fischer lies exhausted in bed with his fistful of dollars after having made America great again more than a century after Paul Charles Morphy. Chess gave him glory and money, but no happiness, and his last words before dying — many years later in exile — were, “Nothing is as healing as the human touch”. The above picture was part of the photo exhibit Harry Benson: Kings & Queens, which went on display at the World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF) in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States from October 5, 2018 to April 14, 2019.
