The International Chess Day, an annual observance which was first celebrated on July 20, 1966, has been recognised by the United Nations (UN) on December 12, 2019, and its first anniversary will be marked by a virtual meeting, titled “Chess for Recovering Better”, to be held on Monday, July 20. Among the virtual guests, there will be big names such as FIDE President Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich, five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand, 14th World Chess Champion Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik, Levon Grigori Aronian, and finally, but even far more importantly, four-time Women’s World Chess Champion 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), whose grace and presence will enchant — even if only virtually because of the pandemic — the UN General Assembly Hall for about two hours. Live broadcasting starts at 10.00 EST at FIDE’s YouTube Channel.
