The newly formed student team from the 深圳大学 (Shēnzhèn University), which competed for the first time in the inaugural University Chess Online Championship held September 17–20, 2020, took third place behind the 上海财经大学 (Shànghǎi University of Finance and Economics) and the 首都体育学院 (Capital University of Physical Education). Most credit certainly goes to four-time Women’s World Chess Champion Professor 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) (pictured above, front row, centre, in a group photo with her student team), who formed the 深圳大学 (Shēnzhèn University) squad in a very short time, for an average age of 18 years, captaining it to the podium and qualifying for the 2020 World University Championship Mind Sports to be held online next fall.
