Following the call by FIDE President Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich, on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, Russian Chess Federation President Andrey Vasilievich Filatov told TASS that Russia in general and Moscow in particular would feel honoured to host the 45th Chess Olympiad in 2022, after Belarus forfeited its privilege and rights due to its failure to provide financial guarantees to FIDE. In advancing the candidature of Moscow, Filatov also vindicated the “competitivity” of the Russian COVID-19 vaccines: “If the situation occurs, we’re ready to host [the Olympics]. Furthermore, by that time, the Russian COVID-19 vaccines will certainly be fully certified, and I think there will be chess enthusiasts who will come to Moscow not only to enjoy such a global show, but also to get vaccinated”. |
