The above picture appeared in the Japanese edition of Max Euwe’s book “From Steinitz to Fischer”, adapted and translated by the then President of the Japan Chess Association, 松本康司 (Yasuji Matsumoto), who likely took the photograph — in fact, it was not present in the Western edition of the book (S̆ahovski Informator, Belgrade, 1976). The caption reads: “1973: As a ‘shinobi’, [Bobby] Fischer has come to Japan. He’s shaking hands with a temporary translator”. |
