Women’s Grand Prix Series 2015-2016; Monte Carlo, October 15, 2015
Queen’s Gambit Declined D11

1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e3 Bg4 5. h3 Bh5 6. cxd5 cxd5 7. Nc3 e6 8. Qa4+. Going nowhere. For 8. g4 Bg6 9. Ne5 Nfd7 10. Nxg6 hxg6 11. Bg2 Nc6 12. 0-0 f5 13. Ne2 Bd6 see Tregubov – Anand, 18th Corsican Circuit, Bastia 2014. 8. Qb3 also deserves consideration. 8. ... Nbd7 9. Ne5 Bd6 10. Bb5 a6 11. Bxd7+ Nxd7 12. Qxd7+ Qxd7 13. Nxd7 Kxd7. Already Black got a more comfortable game. 14. Na4 Rab8 15. Nc5+ Bxc5 16. dxc5 Rhc8 17. b4 b6! Now Miss Anna Muzychuk’s brilliant play seizes the initiative. 18. cxb6 Rc2 19. Bd2 Rxb6 20. f3 Bg6 21. a4

21. ... Bd3! 22. g4 e5. Also 22. ... Rb2! followed by ... Rb6-c6-c2 was very strong. 23. Rh2? An oversight which loses a clear Pawn. However, White’s position was already very difficult anyway. For instance, after 23. Kd1 Rbc6 Black’s position looks imposing. 23. ... Rxb4 24. Rf2 Rbb2 25. Rc1 d4 26. exd4 exd4 27. a5 Rb5 28. Rxc2 Bxc2 29. Kf1. If 29. Bh6 then 29. ... d3 (the Rook ending with two Pawns to the good is also very tempting, viz. 29. ... gxh6 30. Rxc2 Rxa5) 30. Bxg7 Rxa5 and Black is a Pawn up still relying on a powerful initiative. 29. ... Kc6 30. Kg2 Kd5 31. Rf1 Rb2 32. Rf2 Ra2 33. Be1 d3 34. f4 f5! 35. Kf3. 35. gxf5 is equally answered by 35. ... Kd4. 35. ... Kd4 36. Kg3 Ra1 37. Bd2 g6 38. gxf5 gxf5 39. Rg2 Rd1 40. Kf3 Bb3. Threat: ... Bb3-d5+. 41. Be3+ Kc3 42. Rg7 Bd5+ 43. Kg3 Rg1+! 44. Bxg1 d2 45. Rc7+ Kb3 46. Bb6 d1=Q 47. Kh4 Qf3 48. Rxh7 Qxf4+ 49. Kh5 Qg3 0 : 1. A very brilliant win by Anna, who helped her sister Mariya decisively to tie for second place!
