In the meantime, four-time Women’s World Chess Champion 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), who abdicated two years ago in protest against the Women’s World Chess Championship system format, starts over again from square two. After being awarded the Rhodes Scholarship, and being included by TIME in its list of Next Generation Leaders, she is currently housed in the Silicon Valley, where she is applying for an internship at the science initiative Breakthrough Listen.
Chess has apparently ended up at a lower spot in her agenda of priorities, but probably only to a certain extent.
