Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (pictured above), the superstar of the Democratic Socialists of America, has won a second congressional primary in New York, and – quite astonishingly – one she didn’t even enter. After unseating Joe Crowley, a 20-year Democratic congressman, in a midterm primary in New York last month, she also won a Reform Party primary on Tuesday as a write-in candidate in a neighbouring Bronx-based district over the incumbent Democratic, José Serrano. Indeed, the second win was such an unexpected success that on Tuesday evening she felt duty-bound to reassure everyone that she would remain the Democratic nominee in the 14th congressional district: “Shockingly – and I’m told this is not a joke – we have ALSO won a primary in the neighboring 15th Congressional District via write-in campaign on the Reform line!”, she tweeted. “While I am honored that so many Bronxites are excited about our campaign, I will remain the Dem nominee for NY-14”.
