FLORENCE: 侯逸凡 (HÓU YÌFÁN) WINS THE FRIENDLY MATCH WITH DE FILOMENO BY 1½–½

Sevenpress.com, February 20, 2014

Italian holidays for Women’s World Champion 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán).

The Chinese star arrived in Italy at the beginning of February where she, together with her parents, from the 1st to the 9th of the month, spent a holiday both on tourism and chess, organised by Lorenzo Barsi and Alessandra Innocenti of the Florentine Associazione Culturale “Il Delta della Luna”. Among the chess events in which 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) was the main attraction, the most important was no doubt the two-game friendly match against the 18-year-old International Master Simone De Filomeno of Prato. The two games were played in Florence, at the Association’s venue, on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February: the winner of the challenge was the 19-year-old Chinese girl, who defeated the Italian by 1½–½, winning with White and drawing the game played with Black. 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), who at 15 became the youngest Women’s World Champion ever and, after losing the title in 2012, regained it last year by beating the reigning queen Anna Yuriyivna Ushenina with a crushing 5½–½, was welcomed by numerous enthusiasts with whom, at the end of the friendly match, she posed for group photos and analysed the games of the encounter.
The Florentine stay was only the final stage of a tour of Northern Italy during which the Chinese champion visited Venice (with a special guide: FIDE Master Antonio Rosino), Genoa — where, besides enjoying her time as a tourist, she paid a visit to the Centurini Club —, Florence and Prato, the birth city of De Filomeno.
