And, in the end, it happened quite by chance. The “中国移动” (“China Mobile”) Women’s World Chess Championship match between the Queen in charge 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí) and her challenger 居文君 (Jū Wénjūn) was officially presented at a press conference in 上海 (Shànghǎi) early in the afternoon of Wednesday, May 2, 2018. Deputy Director of the Chess & Cards Sports Management Centre of the National Sports Bureau, Grandmaster 叶江川 (Yè Jiāngchuān) (pictured above, seated centre), could barely hide his joy for the fact that China, an undisputed superpower in women’s chess, deserved the honour of hosting such an event. And, finally, two stars in the limelight: 居文君 (Jū Wénjūn) (third from left) and 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí) (second from right) shining in their sartorial triumph. They both said a few words to the press. 居文君 (Jū Wénjūn) said that she made a long preparation and that she hopes for the best. On her turn 谭中怡 (Tán Zhōngyí) just showed a little more confidence: “I don’t want to say anything more now. I save my words for the closing ceremony”. Photo: eastday.com.
