看不见的城市 (Invisible Cities)

With no solution in sight to 香港 (Hong Kong)’s deadlock, China has probably to reflect on how the Celestial Empire administers its “provinces” — in 香港 (Hong Kong) as well as everywhere around the world. Beyond the “political” conflict, which yet inflamed legitimate anti-extradition bill protests in 13 of the city’s 18 districts, on last Monday, 香港 (Hong Kong)’s first general strike in half a century — that put together thousands of workers from all vital sectors of society, ending up paralysing the city — also signaled a social emergence, with a few billionaires in the control room, and too many people living on a precarious edge, if not in abject poverty. China, in view of its status as a world superpower, cannot just afford itself to copy the worst from the West. Photo: Kim Kyung-Hoon/Reuters.
