The Human Touch

20 September 1945

At this late hour
this fall night
I am full of your words:
words
eternal like time and matter,
naked like eyes,
heavy like hands,
and sparkling like stars.

Your words came to me,
they were from your heart, mind, and flesh.
Your words brought you,
they were: mother,
woman,
and comrade.
They were sad, painful, happy, they were hopeful, brave —
your words were human...
