The first direct commercial flight since 1961 from the United States to Cuba landed on August 31 in Santa Clara, after more than 50 years of embargo. The JetBlue plane took off from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood, and included on its passenger list were the United States Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx, and the airline’s CEO Robin Hayes.
