Former Formula One driver Alex Zanardi, 49, claimed his third Paralympic handcycling gold medal on Wednesday after triumphing in the H5 time trial in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
It was the Italy’s third gold and fourth medal overall at the fifteenth Summer Paralympic Games. Zanardi was competing on the eve of the 15-year anniversary of the terrific Champ Car accident at the Lausitzring that cost him both his legs and very nearly his life. Photo: Reuters. |
