April Fools’s Day

The President of Moldova (and President of Chess Federation of Moldova as well) Igor Dodon, while attending the awarding ceremony of the 8th Vyacheslav Andreevich Chebanenko Rapid Open Memorial, held in Chișinău, Moldova from March 31 to April 1 2017, officially announced his country’s intention of hosting in Chișinău the 2019 Knockout Women’s World Chess Championship Tournament. The annunciation was blessed by FIDE President Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov, who was present as a guest of honour invited by Mr. Dodon himself.
