Vassily Mykhaylovych “Chucky” Ivanchuk won 3–1 the “尚街杯” (“MEWE Cup”) 2017 World Champion Summit Chess Match against 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), held in 深圳 (Shēnzhèn), China, thus receiving his $18,000 dollars cash prize, while four-time Women’s World Chess Champion had to be content with $12,000 dollars.
As for the fourth game, Ivanchuk said that 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán)’s attack on the Kingside was quite interesting, at least before becoming too desperate, when she apparently overlooked that Black’s Rook lift to a6 would have easily repelled any of the White Queen’s wishes.
侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), instead, thinks that the second game was the turning point for her: “Losing that game was a great pity, because in a four game match you find yourself to play the last two ones under the burden of pressure. Today, my opponent’s position was sound and good, so I opted for extreme measures, but he defended very accurately“, she told reporters. “If it had been an ordinary game, perhaps I would have adopted more sound means, but I couldn’t because I had to win absolutely”.
