The Atlantis Syndrome

In an interview to 北京青年报 (Běijìng Youth Daily), the leader of China’s diving team 周继红 (Zhōu Jìhóng) said that the divers’ delegation who will participate in the 17th FINA World Aquatics Championships to be held in Budapest and Balatonfüred, Hungary from July 14–30, 2017 will be burdened by an almost unbearable number of absences. Nine months after the Rio Olympics ended, in fact, 杨威 (Chén Ruòlín), 何姿 (Hé Zī), 秦凯 (Qín Kǎi), and the one & only 吴敏霞 (Wú Mǐnxiá) (pictured above) retired to prepare themselves for their wedding parades. The absence of 吴敏霞 (Wú Mǐnxiá) is indeed unforgettable. She could well have married her Prince Charming during the last nine months, and she could have married him even secretely – after all, no one cares who you marry as long as both “she” and “he” are happy. But for nothing in the world China’s sports industry should have allowed the Goddess to get outside Atlantis to never come back. Photo: 曾凱莉wsLYphotoEye.
