President of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE), Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov, said that he “does not exclude” the eventuality of his nomination for the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) Presidency.
“At the moment I do not consider this option, but if the leaders of the Regional Chess Federations will present me with such an offer, I’ll take it into consideration”, he told R-Sport. The election of the new President of the Russian Chess Federation is scheduled for February 3, 2018. In October 2017, FIDE Executive Board, by a majority vote, recommended Ilyumzhinov’s non-nomination for a new presidential term in the election that will take place next autumn in Batumi, Georgia. Just earlier Mr. Ilyumzhinov, President of FIDE since 1995, had announced that he would run for another presidential term in spite of everything. |
