Street artist Banksy, in order to emphasize the fact that he has not been invited to the Venice Biennale, set up an improvised stall in Piazza San Marco (St Mark’s Square) — with an installation titled “Venice in Oil” detailing the plight of city residents against the enormous cruise ships which dock in its canals — just to be promptly kicked out by municipal police for running a stall without a permit.
