Cash for Life

In an article for La Stampa of Jabuary 10, 2022, Professor Massimo Cacciari, one of the founders of the “Commissione Du.Pre (Dubbio e Precauzione)” (“Doubt and Precaution Commission”), put the finger on the plague of a parliament held hostage by a “health emergency” with the effect that “Italian parliament continually extends state of emergency just to survive”.
Of course, his is an impeccable political analysis, but before politics, there is money. Italy’s PM is only a white collar bank bureaucrat after all, and money is what he cares most for. As a matter of fact there are citizens who are denied the most basic human rights, and in the best case, they have every day to pay the lace price for the fulfillment of basic needs.
There will be time to discuss and think about what kind of parliamentarism and what kind of presidentialism are more implementable and inclusive. But the urgency is now to put an end to the government’s authoritarian drift as soon as possible, or there will not be time to discuss about anything.
