On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, as scheduled in his visit to the Philippines, 12th World Chess Champion Anatoly Yevgenyevich Karpov returned back to Baguio Convention Centre in Baguio after 45 years, in what can well be called a journey into memory. In fact, the complex was constructed in 1977 by the Ministry of Human Settlements, which was then under First Lady Imelda Marcos, specially to host the 1978 World Chess Championship match between Karpov and Viktor Lvovich Kortschnoi, a dramatic clash which inspired the film Champion of the World (2021).
