Interviewed by Božidar Proročić for Radio Skala (July 19, 2023), Montenegrin (former Yugoslav) Grandmaster Božidar Ivanović announced the imminent release of a book entitled “64 Chess Stories” (“64 Šahovske Priče”), especially dedicated to Bobby Fischer — the mythical 11th World Chess Champion who, for love of the Yugoslavia, repudiated his birth country, spitting in the face of Uncle Sam. Ivanović confirmed that he appealed to the U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018 asking for posthumous rehabilitation of Fischer. Ivanović also said that Fischer was already seriously ill while detained in Japan, and that his first wish was to be accepted as an asylee in Montenegro. But unfortunately, Montenegro’s government hypocrisy and short-sightedness scuppered any chance to move there, and the brave Iceland ran to the rescue of Fischer.
