Miracle at the Mall

Almost everything is like last year’s, except for the location of the stage, which was moved from the OKO Tower’s Crystal Ballroom of Moscow City International Business Centre to the VDNKh (Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy) Azerbaijan Pavilion (No. 14) in Ostankinsky District, Moscow, Russia. It is the fifth anniversary of one of the most boycotted brands on earth, namely the “Tournament of Stars”, conceived and developed by former World Champion Sergey Alexandrovich Karjakin as a sort of welfare safety net for all the dispossessed who cannot access the big money circuit of the so-called “free world” due to their being banned on either ethnic or political grounds.
And so one finds oneself “in hell”, together with unbelievers and a queen, the only one queen of chess, 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), who for the second year in a row slapped her detractors with the pride of a Cleopatra who kissed away a kingdom for love. Of course she doesn’t need rubles as much as she needs noodles, and that is perhaps what her detractors do not forgive her at court. They are all so free, that there’s nobody else free.
Nevertheless, this is only a pit stop for 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), on her way first to the Corsica island and then, a few days later, to Paris, just in time to claim the sceptre in the 100th jubilee anniversary of Paris City Chess Championship.
