Spanish Game C84

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. 0-0 Be7 6. d3 b5 7. Bb3 0-0 8. Nc3 d6 9. a3 h6 10. h3 Na5 11. Ba2 c5 12. b4 Nc6 13. Nd5 Be6 14. Bd2 Nd4?! This seems at least questionable. More solid is 14. ... Re8 followed by ... Be7-f8.
15. bxc5 dxc5?! 15. ... Bxd5 was now to be taken into consideration by Black; for example: 16. exd5 Nxf3+ 17. Qxf3 dxc5 18. Qg3 Ne8! defending well enough.
16. Nxd4 exd4 17. Nxf6+ Bxf6 18. Bxe6 fxe6

19. Qg4. Threatening both e6 and h6. Now 19. ... Kf7 holds everything — at least for a while — but too dearly: after 20. f4! Black’s situation is desperate.
19. ... e5! Black makes a virtue of necessity: her phalanx of centre Pawns and her latent pressure against White’s Queenside should sufficiently compensate for the loss of the h-Pawn.
20. Bxh6 Qc8 21. Qg3 Qe6?! An inaccuracy which enables White to take over the initiative on the Kingside. More exact was 21. ... Qe8! 22. Bd2 Qh5! 23. f4 c4! with good play for the Pawn.
22. Bd2 c4 23. f4 Rac8 (23. ... a5 24. h4↑)
24. Bb4 Rfe8 25. fxe5 Bxe5?! 25. ... Qxe5 26. Qg6 Qg5 27. Qxg5 Bxg5 28. Rf5 Be3+ 29. Kh2 cxd3 30. cxd3 Rc3! 31. Rd1 Ra8 32. Rf3± is a line given by the engines and, as such, a not easy one to play.
26. Qg5 cxd3 27. cxd3 Rc2 28. Rf5 Bf6 29. Qg6 Be5? This glaring mistake enables White to end on a high note. However, if 29. ... Rec8 then 30. Raf1 Rc1 31. Be1! Qe7 32. h4! with a crushing attack.

30. Rf8+! 1–0.
