“Rhodes Scholar 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) is a Chinese chess grandmaster, four-time Women’s World Chess Champion and is currently ranked as the number 1 female chess player in the world. She studied the Master of Public Policy at Oxford and is currently a professor at Peking University in the Department of Physical Education. Alongside teaching, she continues her work in chess education and research, and will begin a PhD in the Department of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at Peking University this September. While she now competes more selectively, 逸凡 (Yìfán) remains committed to promoting chess beyond elite competition. Her work increasingly focuses on the educational value of chess, interdisciplinary research, and exploring how chess can contribute to education and broader societal development, public engagement and international exchange”.
