Underpainting
Guerrilla Girls (est 1985), Guerrilla Girls Review the Whitney, 1987.
The Clocktower Gallery, an alternative art space in Lower Manhattan, invited the Guerrilla Girls to respond to the 1987 Whitney Biennial, in which only 24% of the works on view were by women artists. Deploying their characteristic directness for Guerrilla Girls Review the Whitney, they created a poster of a woman in a gorilla mask pointing at a banana. Photo © Guerrilla Girls. |
