Late at night between Sunday (January 20) and early Monday (January 21), the Moon will become increasingly cloaked in red shadows in one of the longest lunar eclipse for years. The Supermoon will reach its peak of visibility in Italy on early Monday at around 6,00.

A full Moon comes around once a month, but a Supermoon is a much rarer celestial vision as it only happens once, or at most twice a year. So on Sunday, 2017’s only Supermoon – also being coined the Cold Moon – will shine in the sky for everyone to enjoy.

Overnight on Tuesday, December 13, a new “supermoon” – known as the Full Cold Moon – will appear at its peak about 12,05 A.M. GMT on Wednesday, December 14. The Royal Observatory Greenwich, however, says the moon will “appear full” the night before and after. The astronomers suggest looking out for it just after sunset or before sunrise. If not, the Virtual Telescope will broadcast live streaming of the “apparition” on December 13, starting at 17,00.
