1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. exd5 exd5 5. Bd3 Nf6 6. Ne2 Bg4 7. 0-0 Bh5. For 7. ... 0-0 8. f3 Bh5 9. Nf4 Bg6 see Carlsen – Vallejo Pons, Bilbao 2012. 8. Bg5 c6 9. Qe1 0-0 10. Bxf6 Qxf6 11. Nxd5 cxd5 12. Qxb4 Bxe2 13. Bxe2 Nc6 14. Qxb7 Rab8 15. Qa6 Nxd4 16. c3 Rb6 17. Qd3 Ne6. The dynamics of the position partly compensates Black for the Pawn minus. 18. Rab1 Nf4 19. Qf3 d4 20. c4 Qf5 21. Rfd1 Rg6

22. g3 Nh3+ 23. Kg2 Qd7 24. Qe4 Rd8 25. f4?? An awful mistake. Correct was 25. Re1! followed by Tb1-d1 with an edge for White, since 25. ... d3?? would be refuted by 26. Bxd3! Qxd3?? 27. Qe8+ and mate next move. 25. ... Re8 26. Rxd4 Rxe4 27. Rxd7 Rxe2+ 28. Kxh3? This leads to virtual self-mate, but other moves would lose as well. 28. ... f5! 29. g4 Rh6+ 30. Kg3 Rexh2 0 : 1.
