Should FIDE accept the proposal made by Filatov? Chess-News.ru Poll. For further details, see http://chess-news.ru/node/21888.
I think Mr. Andrey Vasilievich Filatov is too well-read a man not to realize that anyone cannot but appreciate the not-so-hidden meaning of his proposal. I find it such a wonder that some liberals took it so seriously and declared themselves scandalised by it, since it’s a long time past that the World Chess Federation bargains with plutocrats and millionaires as well as with the exaggerated demands submitted by the All-Stars’ greedy managements. I think he already know it, and much better than me. No organization can afford to bear the weight of “franchising representatives” – such as those I knew in Italy – devoted solely to deplete all their parent company’s resources and reputation for their personal profit and egotistic need. So I think that FIDE should not accept Mr. Filatov’s paradoxical proposal, but above all things, FIDE should put itself in a position not to be bought and sold for money, but rather to be supported – even by millionaires – for the sake of chess.
