The Phantom of the Ego

In an exclusive interview to Evgeny Surov for Chess-News.ru, FIDE President Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov revealed that he will approach the autumn presidential election with a new team. Apparently, only one (of the old team) will be confirmed, but he didn’t want to say who. As for the new entries, Ilyumzhinov suggested a couple of names: Glenn Smith, a businessman from the United States, and Willy Iclicki, a member of FIDE Ethics Commission. Furthermore, Ilyumzhinov would be considering inviting “One of the World Champions”, who “is now mostly involved in chess activities”.
In short, a must read for anyone involved in chess politics.
