In the last few hours, with only two days left for the deadline to pass, Canada finally granted visas to all members of the Indian group, while as for the two Russian “nowhere women”, Aleksandra Yuryevna Goryachkina and Ekaterina Aleksandrovna Lagno, they — according to a report from the Chess Federation of Russia — “received invitations to Canada Visa Application Centre to process documents”. Earlier FIDE Director General Emil Davidovich Sutovsky had warned that both the Open and Women’s Candidates Tournaments would be “under the threat of relocation till every player who needs visa gets it”.
