It’s like swimming against the wind

Ecstasy is a 1933 Czech-Austrian romantic drama film directed by Gustav Machatý and starring Hedy Lamarr (then Hedy Kiesler). At the time, the movie was condemned by the Vatican and banned for years by British and American censorship authorities, because of scenes in which Lamarr swims in the nude, runs through the woods naked, and shows her face in the throes of passion. In 1942, Lamarr and her business partner, the composer George Antheil, were awarded a patent for a “secret communication system”. It was meant for radio-guided torpedoes, and the duo gave it to the U.S. Navy.
