The decision is due to the fact that the Ukrainian Chess Federation has not fulfilled its financial obligations in respect of the Women’s World Chess Championship match in Lviv. As a matter of fact, neither 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) nor Mariya Muzychuk have still received their prizemoney. In respect of the planned budget of €405,000 €uros, FIDE has received by the organizers €345,000 €uros. I guess – just my personal opinion, of course – that the amount of their insolvency far exceeds the amount of income they hoped to realize under such a western sky’s exclusive media coverage.
Whatever it is, a solution is not yet in sight. According to galinfo.com.ua, Mariya Muzychuk was offered to renounce her fair share of the prizemoney in exchange of a real estate in Lviv, which – it should be noted – it had already been promised her after she won the Women’s World Chess Championship in Russia. |
