Four for One

MOSCOW, December 16 – R-Sport special correspondent Anatoly Samokhvalov. President of the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov told R-Sport that he was informed by phone that President of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) Andrey Vasilievich Filatov made a statement in favour of nominating Arkady Vladimirovich Dvorkovich, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, as the RCF’s candidate to FIDE Presidency.
“Filatov said at the Supervisory Board of the Russian Chess Federation – which is taking place now – that Dvorkovich will be the RCF’s candidate to FIDE Presidency. Since I was not there, I was informed about it by telephone”, Ilyumzhinov said by phone.
FIDE presidential election will be held concurrently to the 43rd Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia in September-October 2018. Kirsan Nikolayevich Ilyumzhinov is the President of FIDE uninterruptedly since 1995. He has earlier announced his decision to re-run for President and he is already working on his own electoral campaign. In October 2017 FIDE Executive Board delegated executive powers to FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropulos. Earlier, FIDE Executive Board opposed Ilyumzhinov’s nomination for a new presidential term.
