Funny Fanny

崔永元 (Cuī Yǒngyuán), the Chinese TV host whose allegations sparked the 范冰冰 (Fàn Bīngbīng) tax evasion affair has apparently disappeared after making — thru his 新浪微博 (Sina Wēibó) account — fresh accusations about corruption within the 上海 (Shànghǎi) police authority, thus turning the actress’s showdown into a much more systemic “ordeal” which would allegedly involve both the city’s police as well as celebrities from the world of entertainment. While he did not name any of the stars, he made serious accusations against officers from 上海 (Shànghǎi)’s Public Security Bureau’s economic crime investigation department (ECID), saying that they are used to accept hundreds of thousands of 元 (yuán) in cash gifts, as well as drinking 20,000 yuan (US$2,900) bottles of wine and smoking 100 元 (yuán) a packet cigarettes. In a rare and quite unusual public response, on Wednesday 上海 (Shànghǎi) police urged 崔永元 (Cuī Yǒngyuán) to get in touch, claiming he was not to be found since he made his allegations: “[We] hope that he volunteers to contact the police and support our investigation. Once the problem he raised is proved to be true, we will handle it firmly in line with the law”.
