The Importance of Not Being Arcovazzi

Havana pays homage to one of its brightest stars of all, Alicia Alonso (pictured above), Cuba’s legendary prima ballerina assoluta, who will turn 98 on December 21. A plethora of artists will dedicate to her their exhibits, mostly based on visual, literary, and poetic artworks. Among others, the painter José Miguel Pérez inaugurated on December 18 an exhibition titled “Divas” — wholly dedicated to Alonso — on display at the Sala Monográfica Zoom of the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso. Furthermore, on December 19, the multifaced visual artist Jesús Lara Sotelo will present at the Centro de Documentación of the Gran Teatro de La Habana the poetry book “Alicia y la elección de la fe” (“Alicia and the choice of faith”), published by Editorial Punto Rojo Libros, Seville, Spain featuring a collection of poems dedicated to the mythical Alicia.
