On the evening of July 3, 北京时间 (Běijīng Time), the Final match of the 3rd Women’s Speed Chess Championship, jointly organised by FIDE and chess.com, took place online in order to give the world its Speed Queen. Four-time Women’s World Chess Champion 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán), full Professor at the School of Physical Education, Normal College (Faculty of Education), 深圳大学 (Shēnzhèn University), defeated Indian Grandmaster Harika 15 – 13 to crown herself Women’s Speed Champion.
The Championship brought together almost all the top female players in the world. This second edition featured a total of eight Swiss tournaments, with participants from around 100 countries. According to the regulation, the two finalists are to compete under three different different sets of time controls — rapid, blitz and bullet. The number of games is not determined, and the winner is the player with the highest cumulative score at the end of the time.
As 侯逸凡 (Hóu Yìfán) summed it up in the post-match chat, “Harika played very well, especially in the segment of 5+1. At one point I was behind 2 or 3 points. It may be that she’s been affected by her Internet connection problem. I too know something about it. It’s quite annoying, to be honest. She was really playing good and fast. It was anyone’s match up to the last. I was just lucky”.
